What Is Poly B Piping?
Poly B or polybutylene, piping is flexible grey plastic pipe used for indoor hot and cold water supply lines in many Canadian homes built from the late 1970s through the 1990s. Poly B can become brittle and leak over time. It is no longer accepted for new plumbing installations in Canada.
Visual stamp – Smooth grey plastic tubing often marked PB2110 or CSA B137.8.
Where to look – Check near water heaters, under sinks, beside the main water shut off valve and in mechanical rooms.
Code status – Poly B was removed as an acceptable plumbing material in the 2005 National Plumbing Code of Canada. Existing Poly-B is not automatically required to be removed.
